Donna (Van Leeuwen) Marsden was one of the 42 killed on October 17, 1989 when the van in which she was carpooling was caught up in the Nimitz Freeway collapse during the San Francisco/Oakland Bay/Loma Prieta earthquake.

I really liked Donna and although she always dated older guys we would talk a lot at school and I really enjoyed her company, particularly as we both worked on the Crucible school play in our freshman year.  Here is an article about her death in the earthquake:  http://www.nytimes.com/1989/10/29/us/freeway-dead-portraits-oakland-special-report-11-whose-lives-ended-quake-crushed.html?pagewanted=all

I had always hoped we would meet up at a reunion or now with social media that I would be able to find her. Very, very sad.

After a few weeks of the Earthquake I remember the Daily Breeze doing an article or mention of Donna being killed..  I remember seeing Donna around the campus but never got to know her.  I was deeply saddened to read about her death and my heart went out to her family.  Very sad!

I stumbled onto this website and after seeing the "memory" section I thought I'd chime in. Donna was truly a special girl/woman. While I never stood a chance with her, there was an innocent bond, connection we shared, especially at Victor. I remember reading about her passing after the earthquake and was shocked, what an absolute tragic loss. She's one few people that will always have a place in my heart..,.
