“Creativity is a natural extension of our enthusiasm.”  (Earl Nightingale)

How true for Jamie Rohde!  Jamie’s creative energy and devotion to story-telling constantly pulled him away from other obligations in my sophomore English class, to my slight chagrin.

Yet, it seemed impossible to be too hard on Jamie.  He was so full of joy, his smile constant.  This was a young talent that needed a creative outlet more than anything.  He told me during that year that he intended to enroll in a creative writing class at El Camino.   I hope he did.  Jamie needed a place to channel his vast enthusiasm and honor his personal muse.

Later, I learned from Mrs. Burt that he had, in fact, written at least one children’s storybook.  Her children were delighted with his story!

Jamie was also a valuable asset to Freshman Focus because of his carefree exuberance and natural kindness.   We were so disappointed to hear that Jamie was moving and would not be at West for his senior year.

In January of 2009, I was startled to learn of Jamie’s passing.   How heartbreaking to lose someone so young.  God’s blessings to loved ones he left behind.

15 years without my best friend. There isn't a day that goes by I don't think of Jamie. If you knew him, I don't need to express how special a person he was. Just know that he continues to look down and smile on all of us as we continue on our different paths in this lifetime. Until we meet again, dearest friend.. I love you. ♥️🌹
