Joel Oiknine (1977)

Brett was one of my best friends our Senior Year at WHS ( 76'-77' ).  I still keep in touch with his younger sister Terri Wade ( Class of 79' ). Right after we graduted, Brett and I did a road trip to Palm Springs with the clothes on our back and a huge cooler of ice in the back of Brett's pickup truck. When we arrived at the motel we wanted to stay in we dumped the ice in the bathtub of the motel, then went hunting for someone age 21 or older who would help us score "massive quantities of beer" to help fill up the bathtub. We found a guy who looked about 25 years old and approached him entering the supermarket. He agreed to buy all the beer we wanted if we would just buy him his own six pack. No problemo amigo. We spent three wonderful days hanging around the swimming pools of fancy hotels in Palm Springs trying to pick up on chicks. We ate at the cheapest places we could find. We had a great time together !!  Brett also gave me some tennis lessons at one of the resorts where we snuck into the tennis courts. He was quite good at tennis and played for WHS as a Senior.

We had a great experince. Some short time later I read in the "Daily Breze" that he had passed away. It came as quite a shock, as though I had stepped on a land mine and had lost a body part of mine. That missing body part was Brett. I contacted his younger sister Terri and his younger brother to see if it was true. They confirmed my worst fears, Brett had in fact passed away. Boy did that hit home. No more Brett to hang out with, talk to, share secrets with, go to parties with. He was now with Almighty G-d now in Heaven and G-d would be looking out for Brett's every need. May G-d Bless You Brett Wade.

Your good friend,

JOEL S. OIKNINE, Esq.

WHS Class of 77'
