Mike, Andrew Battles, and I grew up friends from grade school days at Grace Wright and hung out all the time from 5th through 8th grade . We still hung out the first couple of years at West, but our paths diverged over time. Mike was the glue in our friendship, somehow managing to stay in touch. I last spoke to him on March 22, 2025, when he asked about the prognosis for metastatic pancreatic cancer (Stage 4).

It was, unfortunately, not the last kind of conversation to have with a childhood friend, since, as a physician, I knew all too well what fate awaited him. More unfortunately, we had a falling out over the previous year, so this was really an unhappy conversation...calling someone you knew you had disappointed for straight advice about a devastating medical diagnosis. He always seemed to remember the good times of our youth and enjoyed reliving those memories. RIP.
