Richard Sauers battled cancer for the past 3 years. He passed on February 28, 2014.
He joined TUSD in 1965 as a Fine Arts (Crafts) Teacher at WHS and retired in 2001. He spent his entire career there. He is survived by a younger brother and a sister, Patricia Estrada.
When you enter the foyer at West you will see an Indian Chief with headdress that Mr. Sauers made and had bronzed before his retirement. It is a beautiful labor of love and crafted by a master. Students flocked to take his class and produced beautiful works of art.
